The PrisonShip

The Prisonship’s a name I used for a music project I got involved in, one summer between the  university days. I played out only once under that moniker, and have never released any of the recordings from that era. I think it was a gesture towards that amazing ‘Slave Ship’ painting by Turner.
The idea is to provide an ‘arts, media, politiques’ clearinghouse that’s at least on par with the Newark Star-Ledger.

Occasionally I post mp3s that’re downloable for a week’s time.  If anybody sees their music posted here and wants it taken away, you better believe I’ll take that stuff away. I prolly need to get over this ‘arts, media, politiques’ thing anyway.

    Hello,

Mike Ferraro here. I’m an indie pop rocker from Hoboken, NJ. I have a new five song EP Awful Killers that I would like to submit to The PrisonShip for review/posting consideration. MP3s of songs from the EP can be found at the URLs below and at the following links:

In early spring 2007 Awful Killers will be released on Italy’s Best Kept Secret label (www.indiepages.com/bestkeptsecret) as part of the ten song cassette retrospective Forgotten How to Lose. Songs from my last EP Someplace Between First & Last are up for free download on the MP3 label A Bunch of Beatniks Riding a Rocket (BoB006) and have been featured on NPR’s All Songs Considered: Open Mic (Stage 88), Unsigned@WOXY.com (Vols. 1, 2 and 5), and the most excellent MP3/music blogs Largehearted Boy and 3hive. [SBF&L on BoB available here: http://bunchofbeatniks.blogspot.com/2005/02/bob006-mike-ferraro-someplace-between.html.%5D

Review comparisons have run the gamut from Ray Davies and Frank Black to the Lemonheads and the Shins, to XTC, Sebadoh and Guided by Voices. While flattering all, I like to think there’s some truth in one critic’s testimonial that “Music this sweet is universal” (Channel 4, UK).

If you have any questions, or require additional information, please drop me a line.

Thanks for your time; I look forward to hearing from you soon.

    Yours,

    Mike Ferraro
