Son Volt – Catching On – live Buffalo HORDE 8/96

I don’t know what it is – Jay Farrar was never much of a showman, and this song is deceptively simple excluding the stop/starts – but this era of Volt still looms over not only their contemporary lineup, but really just about all of my many beloved bands.

What a vocal performance! And from the HORDE tour, too.

I think I big part of what makes this good is the awesome lead guitar guy.

I think so, too. But again, the gtr lines are “simple,” in a way. It’s all about the Bigsby locking tremolo system, or whatever the fuck. Jay’s voice is a lot stronger and gnarlier, too.

Yeah, the tremolo shit. It makes the notes press my head apart.
