    Joy Division for England. Or Billy Idol.
    Mogwai for Scotland.

    I think there’s an argument to made for Oasis as the Springsteen of England. But I don’t think they quite fit musically or in terms of Springsteen’s blue collar entreaties. Oasis has a certain “heart” that is beloved over there, but it’s not the same. On the other hand, it has been said that they were more “working class” than Blur in the Britpop showdown of the mid ’90s, but I have no idea if that’s true. I do know that the guitar player guy says some really offensive shite and sometimes funny stuff. I recall his statement about not playing in Live8 (some Geldoff event from about 2007), which was something like, “I don’t think anyone with any real power is gonna hear these bands playing and think ‘Christ, let’s cancel world debt.'”
