discursively speaking, rudy runs in the front

Has anyone else noticed a spike in the use of the reality is…, both in place of constructions like “In fact” or “actually,” AND in less syntactically or thematically appropriate places? It sticks in my craw largely because I first encountered it as a verbal tick of old Rudy’s.

    The absolute worst is “It is what it is,” when people don’t feel like actually explaining something.
