drive by truckers

the national

arcade fire

jans lekman

death cab for cutie

the hold steady

band of horses

soupjam stevens

m ward

mars volta

(again, this is not a ‘too cool’ thing. for example, i finally heard some of those interpol records and really, really dig ’em. it’s mope-y, synth and minor chord fun. )

    Your honesty is much appreciated….

  2. minx Says:

E is related to the guy from the Drive By Truckers, dude.

  3. minx Says:

Arcade Fire is about a 7 on a 10 point scale. I liked one track from Death Cab for Cutie that I heard on the radio. Heard good things about M. Ward.

I *have* to play this game.

Lemme go ahead and second these:

    the national
    jans lekman
    the hold steady
    band of horses
    m ward

    And I’ll raise you:
    Les Savy Fav
    Franz Ferdinand
    The Knife
    The Smiths
    Dan Deacon
Of Montreal (well, at least since 2000)
    The New Pornographers
    Cat Power
    Bright Eyes
    The Shins
    The Gossip
    Bloc Party
    Patrick Wolf

I expect more and more to come to me today.

Les Savy Fav = not bad, snotty, almost-math rock… always kinda reminded me of semi-finals. but i haven’t heard ’em since 2000, so.

Franz Ferdinand = i have a famous predilection for all the cheesy disco bands…. i dunno too much about these guys except that the disco break is good.

The Knife – drum machines, that’s all i remember.

Feist – Anders Parker recommends. I keep meaning to check out.

The Smiths – oh, c’mon. some girl you know has to have these records .

Cat Power – I think “you had to be there.” Now that she’s doing diamond advertisements and chanel photoshoots, i don’t know why you’d identify/care.

Gossip – I see there sticker on a lot of vans.

  6. lexdexter Says:

    broken social scene
    sloan (not since 2000)
    cobra verde (not since 2000)
    panda bear
    the sadies
    holly golightly
    nina nanistasia
pj harvey (barely any, anyway…there’s one albini-recorded, spiderland-y album i remember liking.)
yo la tengo (seriously, i’ve always just stayed away)
    death cab
    okkervill river
    broken social scene

  7. Kyle Says:

I take back the Hold Steady inclusion. That was an accident.
I’ve seen them 3 times in the past few years and I can’t deny their rockin’ ruleness. I don’t really listen to their albums, but I recommend their shows quite a bit. Closest thing I can think of to an indie Silver Bullet band.

  8. andrew Says:

i really love the hold steady, like in a pavement way. okkervil river has a sewanee guy, no? the first song on the stage names is really great.

  9. andrew Says:

yo la tengo’s new album is awesome
