you can call me neoliberal

not that this is a news flash, particularly when one bears in mind’s gore’s hawkish days in the reagan/bush 1-era senate. nonetheless it stings every time a leading “progressive” sees no contradiction in buttressing their passioned pursuit of (‘non-economic’ issue here) with finance capital’s golden girds.

the tactic of fighting capital’s crimes with capital seems unavoidable but is actually only very nearly unavoidable. that bit of hairsplitting conjures up the distinction betweet dominance and hegemony, somebody might say.

alright pjh, i’m interested: can you fill out the analogy? how is al’s investment advising (sans personal profit) to capitalism as dominance is to ideology? or am i missing the analogical reasoning here?

kevlar, i was addressing the idea that using capitol against capitol is the only way to make reforms. that is almost always true, but not entirely true. and however trifling a distinction that may seem, it’s the difference between knowledge and faith, or between understanding the long odds against you and accepting yourself as already defeated.
